  1. Attending the International Conference on Global Public Health during December 3-4, 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka with Prof Hideo Miyazaki
    The meeting was organized by International Centre for Research and Development, Sri Lanka and Umea University, Sweden. There were about 100 participants from several countries in Asia, Australia and Europe. The topics cosnsited of global challenges in oral health, climate change, social determinant of health, double burden of health etc. There were 65 oral presentations and 16 poster presentations.
  2. Poster presentation on “Global Oral Health Science Specialist Training Program Development” by Yupin Songpaisan, Yoko Ishida, Hiroshi Ogawa, Hideo Miyazaki and Takeyasu Maeda.
    Abstract: It is an urgent need of oral health workforces; researchers and educators specialized in tackling global oral health problems. Therefore, the Niigata University Education and Research Center for Global Oral Health Science is developing a specialist training curriculum at a doctoral level in global oral health science as to cope with global health disparity and inequality leading to a better quality of life of diverse communities. Accordingly, the candidate will be competent by obtaining knowledge, attitude and skill in planning, promotion and provision of the appropriate, acceptable, accessible and affordable oral healthcare services to the communities in relation to their local circumstances. Additional to the global/public health science, social/behavioural/ communication science, ethics and professionalism, the curriculum includes translation of oral health science to cost-effectively oral healthcare provision and promotion through various teaching methods within or at other universities. Furthermore, the candidate’s skill and experiences in leadership, program management and evaluation are highlighted by implementation of population-based/primary oral health care program as his/her dissertation and serving extramural externship in a developing community under co-supervision of collaborating institutes. The curriculum will seek reflective critique from domestic and international oral health leader organizations during 2012 and be disseminated in 2013. (Poster is attached, see Fig.1)
  3. Poster presentation on “Dental caries status of 6 year old school children at the baseline of FMR program in Kandy Sri Lanka." by Chandra Herath, Tharanga Nandasena, Kanthi Perera, Sampath Ratnayake, Shihoko Sakuma, Hideo Miyazaki (Fig.4) and "ECOHIS is a reliable indicator to predict the dental caries status in children" by Tharanga Nandasena, Chandra Herath, Kanthi Perera, Sampath Ratnayake, Shihoko Sakuma, Hideo Miyazaki (Fig.5).
