Submandibular Sialolithiasis:
report of a case

Abstract: A case of bilateral multiple submandibular sialolithiasis
is reported . A 78-year-old man was referred to us because of a
swelling on the left side of the submandibular region. Radiographic
examination revealed the presence of salivary stones bilaterally in
the submandibular areas. The swelling subsided after chemotherapy.
Sialithotomy was not performed because the patient did not want
further treatment. He visited us again 3 years later complaining of
swellings on both sides of the submandibular regions.
Radiographically, there were 8 stones in the right submandibular
gland, 3 stones in the right submandibular duct and 2 stones in the
left submandibular duct. They were all removed by sialoadenectomy and
sialithotomy with the patient under general anesthesia. The patient
made an uneventful recovery.
