Computer-Assisted Patient Information System for Orthodontic Treatment The use of QuickTimeTM(CAPIS )
Conceptualizing tooth movement and space closure during orthodontic treatment by edgewise appliance is a hard task for the patients. To overcome the difficulty which is often encountered by the orthodontists, we developed a computer-assisted patient information system (CAPIS) especially designed for orthodontic treatments. The program is composed by a series of multimedia databases in which motion pictures, or QuickTimeTM movies, and pictures are extensively included. The QuickTimeTM (QT) is a commercially available batch program for the Apple Macintosh series computer and is conceived so as to enable simultaneous management of sound, video and text. Our QT movies show changes of tooth alignment and profile by orthodontic treatment, using the technique of morphing.
