国際シンポジウム2023を開催しました

On Saturday, 11 February 2023, the Faculty of Dentistry, Niigata University, held an online symposium entitled “The International Symposium on Development of Human Resources in Practical Oral Health and Treatment 2023”. This symposium activity is an annual event held by the Faculty of Dentistry, Niigata University which was last held in Bali, Indonesia, in 2020. However, due to the pandemic situation, several symposiums were postponed and held again in 2023.

Symposium Participants from across Asia

This symposium consists of 4 symposia, each of which carries a different field, namely updates in Advanced Basic Research in Dentistry which was presented by Dr. Yosuke Akiba (Niigata University), Dr. Suebsamarn Orakarn (Suranaree University of Technology), and Prof. Kei Tomihara (Niigata University). In the field of Dysphagia and Rehabilitation, Prof. Wen-Liang Lo (National Yang-Ming University) shared the clinical data taken in Taiwan, Dr. Matana Kettratad-Pruksapong (Thammasat University) shared her experiences in treating dysphagia and gerodontology in Thailand, and Dr. Takanori Tsujimura (Niigata University) who shared his experiences and basic science data in Japan. The topic of Periodontology and Endodontology was presented by Dr. Naoto Ohkura (Niigata University), Dr. Mayuka Nakajima (Niigata University), and Dr. Fatimah Maria T (University of Indonesia), and lastly, updates in Community Dentistry across Asia, presented by Dr. Sutee Suksudaj (Thammasat University), Dr. Ninuk Hariyani (Airlangga University), and Dr. Takashi Hoshino (Niigata University).

At this symposium, there was also a Special Lecture presented by former Prof. Takahiro Ono with a very interesting topic, namely “How to achieve Chewing happiness”, and pointed out that mastication is one of the factors affect the quality of life also the importance of masticatory performance, especially for the elderly.

The Deans Meeting also took part in the Symposium and was attended by Deans from Universities in collaboration with Niigata University. The issue of student exchange as well as staff exchange was discussed.

In total there were 12 presentation materials delivered by speakers from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. The symposium started at 09.30 JST and finished at 18.20 JST. Even though the time was quite long, there were approximately 200 participants from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, China, Yemen, Indonesia, England, Timor Leste, and Peru who attended and followed the course of the event from the start to finish. At the end of the presentation, there is a discussion session where participants can ask questions that will be answered by the speaker. The discussion ran smoothly, and the participants looked enthusiastic. This symposium presents various developments in the field of Dentistry from across Asia. Niigata University hopes to hold the symposium again next year.

令和5年2月11日（土）に国際シンポジウム「The International Symposium on Development of Human Resources in Practical Oral Health and Treatment 2023」を開催しました。シンポジウムは前回2020年にインドネシアで開催以降、新型コロナウイルスの影響により中断していましたが、今年、オンライン開催にて再開しました。

前田健康学部長による開会スピーチの後、シンポジウムと特別講演の演目で構成され、シンポジウムには、①歯学先端基礎研究 、②摂食嚥下リハビリテーション、 ③歯周病学・歯内療法学、 ④地域歯科保健 について日本、台湾、タイ、インドネシアから計12名の講演者が集まりました。

特別講演では小野高裕前教授が「How to achieve “Chewing Happiness”」というテーマで、咀嚼がQOLに影響を与える要因の一つであること、特に高齢者における咀嚼能力の重要性について発表されました。

長時間のプログラムにもかかわらず、日本、台湾、タイ、インドネシア、ミャンマーから200名を超す参加があり、各シンポジウムでは参加者から質問が飛び交い、活発な討論が行われました。

また、同日には歯学部長会議も開催し、部局間交流協定を締結した各大学歯学部の学部長らと学生・若手研究者交流促進に向けて意見交換が行われました。

全てのプログラムが終了したのち、照沼美穂副学部長による閉会の挨拶が行われ、今年の国際シンポジウムは閉会しました。
