Our Research

・Comprehensive Research Using Cultured Human Periosteal Cells for Bone Regeneration Therapy
We are focusing on the bone regenerative potential of periosteal cells and conducting basic research to establish superior bone regeneration therapies. We are also conducting a study for quality control of transplanted cells (cellular products) under the realm of regulatory science.

・Clinical Research of Association Between Periodontal Disease and Systemic Diseases
We are conducting epidemiological studies of the association between periodontal disease and various systemic diseases (rheumatism, atherosclerosis, diabetes, premature birth, osteoporosis, cancer, and others) through immunological and genetic approaches using clinical samples in collaboration with medical departments and outside institutions.

・Fundamental Research Investigating the Molecular Mechanisms of the Oral–Systemic Connection
We are performing basic research to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the periodontal-systemic interactions through in vivo studies using mouse models of experimental periodontitis and various systemic disease models as well as in vitro studies using periodontal tissue component cells and immune cells.

・Basic Research for Development of Specific Antibacterial Agents and Food-Derived Functional Peptides for Treatment of Periodontal Disease
We are conducting drug development research for the prevention and treatment of periodontitis by developing specific antibacterial agents for periodontopathogenic bacteria and establishing oral biofilm control strategies using functional peptides derived from dietary resources (e.g., rice and soybeans). In addition, we are investigating nano-based drug delivery systems that efficiently administer these substances.

・Clinical Research of Biomarkers and Lasers in Periodontitis and Peri-Implantitis
We are investigating biomarkers that reflect the onset and progression of periodontitis and peri-implantitis. We are also conducting clinical research on the efficacy of various lasers and photodynamic therapies for periodontitis and peri-implantitis.

Clinical Fields

・Professional Periodontal Treatment with Evidence-Based Medicine
On the basis of precise examination and accurate diagnosis, we provide professional periodontal treatments for moderate to severe periodontal diseases, including periodontal flap surgery and tissue regeneration therapy. Advanced treatment is provided by specialized periodontists certified by the Japanese Society of Periodontology.

・Periodontal Tissue Regeneration Therapy Using Special Agents
Periodontal tissue regeneration agents such as Emdogain (an enamel matrix derivative) and basic fibroblast growth factor 2 are used to promote the regeneration of tooth-supporting tissues.

・Alveolar Bone Regeneration Therapy Using Cultured Autologous Periosteal Cells
In collaboration with the Division of Pioneering Advanced Therapeutics in Niigata University Medical and Dental Hospital, we provide treatment to regenerate alveolar bone destroyed by periodontal disease. We are developing bone regeneration therapy using bone-forming grafts with cultured autologous periosteal cells.

・Comprehensive Periodontal Treatment with Interdisciplinary Collaboration
After achieving a multidisciplinary diagnosis, we provide treatment in collaboration with specialized departments such as orthodontics, prosthodontics, and implantology.

・Laser Treatment for Periodontal Disease
Compared with conventional methods, the treatment using an Er:YAG laser is less painful and is expected to have a disinfecting effect.
